Steel works in the EU are subjected to horrendous CO2 duties
by means of the emissions trade system. On that account, European
steel became more expensive and imports were preferred. The
Commission's income from this ETS system in the last year alone
was more than 43 billion euros.
Instead of suspending ETS because it endangers our own steel works
and the remaining industry, the Commission introduces, full of tricks,
the CO2 tariff CBAM [Carbon Border Adjustment system] and,
with a stroke of the pen, extends the ETS system to the foreign trade
- with incalculable consequences for our supply chains.
More than one billion now flows in addition year for year into the
EU's account while affected businesses despair. An importer of
screws needs to pay per year some six million euros in CBAM
costs - for a 90 million euros turnover. This cost will be passed on
to the machine builders, auto manufacturers and consumers.
Do you recognize the shameless redistribution with the simultaneous
endangerment of our economy? We will be forced into a costly,
mendacious climate corset. ETS makes more expensive
European production, CBAM the imports - and now shall CBAM be
extended to up to 457 additional production groups.
The effect on the climate is not measurable but our economic
basis assuredly will be destroyed. We need to stop ETS and CBAM
now. Therefore, Europe needs the ESN, and Germany needs the
AfD.
